Please don't be confused by the purplish stripes in this image. The paper is white 9x11" and the color is just for website purposes. Also, the webpage formatting here makes the paper (and figure) seem smaller than the landscape view, but the figure is actually larger in this, the portrait view.

* The portrait of Joseph Pilates as a young man and the cartoony sketch of him on his portable V-bed invention were done when I had the opportunity to view and stop-action old footage of him on a rooftop in (I believe) Germany. What I recall of it was black and white silent choppy film of him striding toward the camera wearing a satiny robe and his curly dark hair (thus the portrait); expounding with a cocky grin into the camera, then backing up to full view to demonstrate how his portable bed (with carrying handles) unfolds and opens into a V-shaped construction. Then he takes of his robe and flops into the middle fold, turning and stretching to show how great it is to sleep on this contraption. I loved it and thought it was funny, so I made a funny drawing of that scene.
